Staying at the Meadowmere Resort in Charming Ogunquit, Maine

Ogunquit is a wonderful little town in Southern Maine. Known for its vibrant LGBTQ population and also being just a quaint seaside village, the Meadowmere Resort is a wonderful place to stay when you’re planning a weekend trip to enjoy Ogunquit. There are lots of quaint inns you can choose from, but I like the Meadowmere Resort for both its location and its quiet communal setting.

What We Love about the Meadowmere Resort

There are lots of cool places to stay all around Ogunquit, from historic inns to even a few luxe properties. What I like about staying at the Meadowmere Resort is that it’s quiet and spacious, and it’s NOT directly downtown but still within walking distance. Even though the main intersection and surrounding streets in Ogunquit are fun for dining, goofing off with friends, shopping and people watching, it’s really nice to be able to get home at the end of a long day and just have calm. It’s peaceful like the Samoset Resort is peaceful.

If you’re staying at the Meadowmere Resort during the summertime, you’ll only be a few minutes from the beach and then with the many amenities (see below) you can come back at the end of the day and easily unwind before walking to dinner. I do think the location makes the Meadowmere Resort a unique option for the type of lodging that it is. You get the feeling of a more rural resort, like one that’s known for its remoteness, but then you’re still in a neighborhood. I just really like it. I also enjoyed having a patio to sit on with my coffee each morning. Not every room has a balcony or patio, but many do; ours opened to a garden which I loved. There are lots of elements of the Meadowmere Resort that make it a great getaway in Ogunquit.

Meadowmere Resort Accommodations Options

Because the Meadowmeare Resort is rather large and comprised of different building built in different stages, you have quite a few different room types to choose from. We’re always on the go so spend very little time in our hotel room except in the morning and at night, so the standard (king, queen or two doubles) is just fine for us. Even the standard size room is plenty big, and most do have either a balcony or patio. When you’re booking, you’ll see that one of the differences in the standard rooms based on the building is whether it’s an internal or external entrance to the room. I don’t mind either type, but some people prefer rooms that are only accessible through an interior corridor.

Beyond the standard rooms, premium rooms are a bit larger, have more upscale touches and then many have fireplaces or jetted tubs. Then there are presidential suites that still are larger with separate sitting areas, and then family suites with much more room, separate sleeping areas, and they can accommodate larger families. The Meadowmere Resort really is THE ideal spot if you’re visiting Ogunquit with your family or several friends.

Amenities at the Meadowmere Resort

There are hotels and there are resorts, and what sets them apart are the overall amenities and how fully you’ll be able to function just from the property. The Meadowmere Resort has a lot of amenities, making it a place that you could simply check into and relax… but you’re in Ogunquit and there is nightlife and great restaurants and a beautiful beach, so you want to enjoy where you are.

Having said that, there are two swimming pools (one inside and one outside), a hot tubs (in and outdoors), a fitness club (large fitness center), fire pits, outdoor space, a game room and even a movie theater on site. Classic and new movies (not in the theater still), action and family friendly movies show every day for resort guests. Not that the weather will make you want to see a movie with each visit, but there are times when taking a break from all the action of your travels is just nice, and sometimes it’s in a theater.

One of the best amenities available at the Meadowmere Resort is the bike rentals for guests. The town of Ogunquit is beautiful, and the layout is such that you can ride a bike around the full loop, check out the lighthouse and shore path, and then head over to the beach area, all with ease and without getting lost. Use the resort bikes for it!

Ogunquit Dining near the Meadowmere Resort

While one of the biggest draws of visiting Ogunquit is all of the great restaurants (and a good small grocer with a deli counter), you can dine on property at the Meadowmere Resort if you like. The West Meadow Pub is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s good, but it’s not as good as some of the other options a few blocks away in town.

Next door, though not affiliated with the Meadowmere Resort is Jonathan’s Restaurant. This is a long-established fine dining option focusing on Maine seafood. It’s just steps away for dinner, if you’re interested. Some of the places I really enjoy for dining in Ogunquit include the Crooked Pine (top pick, the coolest), the Front Porch, CREW, Rose Cove Ogunquit, Brix + Brine, and the Backyard. There are many more restaurants to pick from, but these options are stellar.

Parking and Location of the Meadowmere Resort

Included with your resort fee at the Meadowmere Resort (I hate resort fees) is self parking on property (lots of spaces). When you arrive, there is a covered area to park while you get checked in. Be sure to get a parking pass before parking yourself. And then the beach is not too far and I’ll tell you, it’s worth it to park here at the hotel and then check out one of their beach wagons (complimentary) to walk the 10 minutes to the beach. There are paid lots at the beach and they can be a pain, so it’s best to walk from here.

Whether it’s your intent to spend lots of time here in Southern Maine or if you’re just driving through on your way to MidCoast or over to Acadia National Park, there are some beautiful places to explore and towns to enjoy down here. A lot of people fly into Boston to start their trip to Maine, so heading through towns like York, Kennebunk and Portland is a part of many vacations. But don’t just drive through! There are covered bridges, lighthouses, hiking, beaches and beautiful small towns.

Here are just a few fun things to do and stops to make as you visit Southern Maine from the New Hampshire border up to Portland.

Of course there is much more to do in Southern Maine, but these are the ideas you can easily add to your trip no matter what your final destination is. For more suggestions, check out the following Southern Maine ideas:

Where to Stay in Southern Maine

I always think of Southern Maine as a beach getaway. While MidCoast holds my heart for the scenery, kayaking and lobster, the beaches and small towns of Southern Maine are wonderful for a getaway. Along the I-95 corridor you’ll find a lot of national travel brand hotels, but when you get into the small coastal towns, you’ll discover amazing inns and boutique stays. Consider your budget and remember that the closer to the more picturesque places, the higher the nightly rate (but it’s often worth it!).

I hope you’ll consider staying at the Meadowmere Resort and exploring Ogunquit. Visiting this part of Maine is really special in any season. If you have any additional questions or need some recommendations for something else, please leave a comment or send us a note.
