What We Love about Terramor Outdoor Resort

What really caught me up in the experience of staying at the Terramor Outdoor Resort wasn’t just that it was an alternative to booking a hotel, but that it’s such an “outdoors” experience. Many glamping options in Maine and other areas involve staying in cabins or other comfortable accommodations that are immersed in the woods or just in a very natural setting.

Here at Terramor it’s actually a tented camping experience with just a canvas separating you from the crickets and coyotes howling. When you wake up in the morning you’re breathing fresh air just like when you’re camping in a tent you put up yourself, but here you’re waking up in a comfortable bed and you have electricity and a beautiful bathroom. You have the hotel room amenities but the birds are singing.

In addition to having an amazing tent to stay in, the actual property of the Terramor Outdoor Resort is wonderful. Trails and boardwalks connect the different areas making it great to wander around with your morning coffee or a glass of wine at sunset. The night sky is wonderfully dark for stargazing, and when you want to explore in the daytime, Acadia National Park is all around you. The staff was all very kind and helpful for both making sure we were all good to go for our stay at Terramor Outdoor Resort and also for our activities in Acadia NP and Bar Harbor. It was all just like being at a nice hotel, but getting to sleep outdoors. Lovely.

Terramor Outdoor Resort Glamping Options

Our tents at the Terramore Outdoor Resort were quite large. There was a king bed in the main room and then a bedroom area with a bunk bed consisting of a queen and twin bed. The living space had two large chairs, a wardrobe rack with full length mirror, a coffee and refreshment station and lots of windows. I was impressed by the bathroom setup in our tents, as there was a toilet closet and a full sized shower, as well as double sinks and lots of light. There were electrical outlets all through the tents as well, which was amazing considering how few outlets hotel rooms tend to have, so the tent actually surpassed expectations.

Other glamping tent options at the Terramor Outdoor Resort include a smaller tent that sleeps two instead of five. The only big difference is the size of the tent due to not needing the extra space for the bunk beds. Variations among the glamping tents also include how the front porch or entrance is set up, as well as some having a back porch area. When you’re booking your stay, you’ll be able to see what the options are and which you think suits your needs best.

Amenities at Terramor Outdoor Resort

When you’re choosing where to stay near Acadia National Park, glamping is going to be up there on your list. Within the glamping tents at the Terramore Outdoor Resort, you’ll find a complete morning beverage station including a very nice pour over coffee setup with supplies, a selection of teas, and a variety of cups and mugs. There’s also an electric kettle for all of this. A medium sized cooler is provided as well, and ice can be picked up in the main lodge. There are heaters that can be plugged in on cool nights and an electric lantern you can take with you all about the property if you’re out after dark.

A bonus that really puts the “glam” in glamping, the Terramor Outdoor Resort has a beautiful swimming pool area, complete with hot tub and flowing waterfall. There are lots of patio chairs and shaded areas, and towel service is provided poolside so you don’t need to bring a towel from your glamping tent. You can wear your bathrobe (two are provided in each tent) to enjoy your walk to and from the swimming area. There is a restroom by the swimming pool for changing if needed.

An important part of the glamping experience is the campfire setup. How can you go camping without enjoying a fire?! Firewood and kindling are supplied at the central area with wagons to help you transport firewood back to your glamping site. In your tent you’ll also find matches and a fire starter puck. It’s the best of both glamping and camping here at Terramore Outdoor Resort.

Terramor Bee Apiary Experience

One of the more unusual features of the Terramor Outdoor Resort at Acadia National Park is the bee program. Yes, there are bee boxes and a resident beekeeper who is happy to be a part of guests’ experience. There are bee talks in the lodge or on the event patio on different nights, and then guests can also book a beekeeping experience themselves. We did it and it was really cool. After learning about the bees and how beekeeping works, we got to don the protective suits and actually meet the bees, holding the frames and getting up close with the hives. Bees are such an important part of our natural world and seeing how they’re integrated into the landscape and programming at the Terramore Outdoor Resort was very special.

Dining at Terramor Resort in Bar Harbor

In the main lodge at Terramor Outdoor Resort you’ll find Kitchen 207, which is open for lunch and dinner. They’ve got a selection of burgers, salads and nicer entrees as well. They have a full bar and local brews on tap too. You can sit in the dining room or outside, or even by the roaring fire. This is the same area where the complimentary continental breakfast is served each morning. Fresh fruit, warm muffins and croissants, eggs, yogurt, juices and coffee are all provided starting at 7:00 am each day. Also in the lobby there is a small grocery area with snacks and necessities. Since you’re glamping, you don’t need to have access to a full camp store like at a campground, but they do offer plenty of treats and comforts for purchase.

Parking for Terramor Guests

When you arrive at the Terramore Outdoor Resort you’ll need to stop at the main lodge building to check in. They’ll get you all oriented with the property and help you with your tent assignment. They also have tons of information about Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, so feel free to ask them all of your questions. There is short term parking at the lodge and then they’ll direct you where to park depending on what tents you are in. There is a central parking area, but some tents do have parking very near to their pathway, so just listen to where you’re instructed to park.

Is there a Shuttle into Acadia National Park?

Yes! Shuttle service to Acadia National Park and a few other Bar Harbor sites is complimentary and provided through the Acadia Island Explorer Shuttle Bus service. You can get nearly everywhere on Mount Desert Island through the bus system. It begins at 8:00 am and runs until 8:00 pm or thereabouts. Be sure to check the schedule to make sure you don’t get left in the park! If you have an early morning activity in Bar Harbor or have sunrise/sunset access to Cadillac Mountain, the bus service will not work for you and you’ll need to drive or call for a car, but if you’re planning on hiking and sightseeing in the park all day you’ll be set!

Things to Do in Acadia / Bar Harbor

I love getting to visit Acadia National Park and spend time in Bar Harbor. Mount Desert Island is beautiful and so special. One of my favorite Bar Harbor activities is doing boat tours. Whether it’s a sailing vessel or you’re going out whale watching, there are many options to enjoy being on the water. We’ve even done the most epic 18 lighthouse cruise from Bar Harbor that took us all the way up into Canada and back down, seeing lighthouses, whales and birds. It is the coolest! In Bar Harbor, there are lots of galleries and fun shopping, but the must-visit spot is the Abbe Museum. Dedicated to the Wabanaki people (the Nation of Maine’s indigenous residents) it’s full of history, art and artifacts, and is one of the most interesting museums in Maine.

When it comes to visiting Acadia National Park, check out our 3 Day Acadia Itinerary first. Depending on how much time you have you may want to focus on just one epic hike or maybe you’ll want to rent e-bikes in Acadia and go through nearly the whole National Park. A must, in my opinion, is that you reserve access for sunset on Cadillac Mountain. You need to do this in advance and you’ll be so glad you did. It’s a chance to take in the views and hike around during the most gorgeous time of day. My favorite way to experience the park is by biking in Acadia. Between the Park Loop Road and the Carriage Roads, it’s one of the best biking experiences in any National Park and you get to see so much of the park.
