What We Love about Kelly’s Landing on Moosehead
It’s funny how we ended up at Kelly’s Landing, as we actually hadn’t planned on staying here during our fall trip to the Lake. We had been traveling all day and touring until after dark and were actually set to stay more than an hour from town and it just wasn’t going to happen. We stopped into Kelly’s Landing during the dinner rush at the restaurant and between tables they got us set up with a lodge room for the night. It was informal and a bit of a scramble, but those ladies were so great about getting us taken care of at the last minute.
And wouldn’t you know it, now we know to intentionally plan a stay here for summer time. Being able to stay right on Moosehead Lake was a treat for us. A large deck with chairs and tables and even access to a small beach makes it a great summertime retreat. It’s not fancy, but Kelly’s Landing is clean, spacious, in a great location and just what you need to unwind and have a great visit to Moosehead Lake.

Kelly’s Landing Accommodations Options
Kelly’s Landing is an informal lodge, so the accommodations vary from standard rooms to small suites. Every room faces Moosehead Lake, so there’s not a bad view in the house. When you’re looking at the many accommodations in Greenville, you’ll see quite a broad range of room arrangements and prices. We’ve also gotten to stay at the Blair Hill Inn across the lake, which was amazing, but when it comes to visiting Greenville on a budget, Kelly’s Landing fits that sort of trip a bit better.
While both options offer large rooms and epic views, the difference between the two is the level of luxury across the board. Often when we stay at a lodge it’s rather upscale designed for an elevated rustic experience. Kelly’s Landing is a lodge designed for a fun trip to the lake with afternoon margaritas on the deck. Within our particular room we had a living area with a pullout sofa bed; dining space with a microwave, small refrigerator and coffee maker; a bedroom with a queen bed; and a bathroom. This was ample space for four people, especially given the access to the outdoors and deck area.
The different options for the lodge at Kelly’s Landing include:
- one bedroom suites
- a two bedroom suite
- the Lakeside Log Home – can be rented as the whole thing or split upstairs / downstairs

Amenities at Kelly’s Landing
Kelly’s Landing is a simple resort. You’ve got your lodge rooms, the restaurant and deck, and the nice people. This is a very low key place for easy going visitors to stay. The staff is great and they’re very helpful with recommendations for activities and such. A small beach on Moosehead Lake is just past the lodge building and is easily accessible for guests. It’s a good swimming spot or if you just want to lay out by the water.
If you’re looking for kayak rentals or want guided services or tours, Kelly’s Landing refers guests to Northwoods Outfitters. They do all kinds of things from canoe trips and fishing to snowmobiling. What Kelly’s Landing lacks in their own amenities they make up for with their connections.

Dining at Kelly’s Landing
The restaurant at Kelly’s Landing is awesome. Again, we’re talking low key, but really delicious. Combining pub fare with some northern specialties, like some lobster offerings and poutine (woot woot to our Canadian friends). The restaurant gets BUSY in the summertime and on the weekends. It’s a really popular breakfast spot so if you show up and there’s a line, just be sure to get your name on the list and be patient. Hang out on the deck and relax because the food is worth waiting for.
In downtown Greenville itself there are quite a few restaurants and cafes. It’s not big like Bar Harbor or Waterville, but you’ve got options for pizza, burgers, waterfront dining and more.

Parking and Location of Kelly’s Landing
Kelly’s Landing is located directly on Moosehead Lake about 5 minutes from downtown Greenville, technically in Greenville Junction. It’s on the way to Rockwood where you get the ferry to Mount Kineo State Park. This is on the west side of the lake so you get the beautiful sunrises coming up across the water. There is plenty of parking here, as the property really functions more as a VERY popular restaurant.
Getting to Greenville and Kelly’s landing, it’s quite the drive depending on where you’re starting. The road trip up to Moosehead Lake is beautiful though and you’ll not begrudge the drive.

More Things to do in the Highlands of Maine
The Highlands of Maine stretch from Bangor and sprawl to the north and west following the rise of the Appalachians. There are lots of small towns and state parks, and some of the most beautiful sights in Maine. I know that most people think of coastal Maine and its lighthouses when they think of what they’ll see when they come for a visit, but the Highlands are really the playground of Mainers. This region is why Maine is called “Vacationland” and you’ll see why when you come for a visit.
And you cannot forget that the Highlands is an epic winter playground too, with destinations like Sunday River, Saddleback and Sugarloaf. In winter you’ve got downhill and Nordic skiing, and in summer it’s all about hiking and fishing. During fall this is where you come for leaf peeping and to look for moose and other Maine wildlife.
Here are some great ideas for ways to enjoy the Highlands of Maine.
Where to Stay in the Highlands
Depending on the season you’re visiting the Highlands, you will have different options for where to stay. If you’re planning on climbing Mount Katahdin or doing a portion of the Appalachian Trail, Millinocket is a great place to be based. For other Appalachian Trail launch points you can find fun places to stay in Eustace, the Carrabassett Valley, and Rangely. Another amazing summertime destination is Greenville and Moosehead Lake.
For skiing you can stay in Newry or Hanover (for Sunday River), Rangely or Phillips (for Saddleback), or Carrabassett Valley for Sugarloaf. You’ll find lots of cross country / Nordic skiing all over, but the Katahdin Area Trails are great for it!
I hope you’ll consider booking a few days enjoying Moosehead Lake from Kelly’s Landing. Visiting this part of Maine is really special in any season. If you have any additional questions or need some recommendations for something else, please leave a comment or send us a note. We’re happy to share more and help YOU have a wonderful trip as you explore Maine!
